What you are looking at here, folks, is a classic case of DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS (more commonly known as DVT). Deep venous thrombosis is a condition in which a blood clot forms in a vein that is deep inside the body. This most often leads to death. DEATH.
Now some may say this is an unhealthy fear. But I beg to differ. Have any of you faithful readers ever felt....
- Changes in skin color (redness) in one leg
- Increased warmth in one leg
- Leg pain in one leg
- Leg tenderness in one leg
- Swelling (edema) of one leg
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Any of you who have ever been walking, hiking, swimming, sitting, or just simply existing, have probably felt all of these things. Well I am here to tell you that if you're not careful, you will contract DVT and probably die.
But I have good news for you!! I'm going to tell you how I avoid contracting DVT.
Usually I don't sit cross legged. I like to always stick my legs out or just stand. I also don't hide in barrels or small spaces. When you are playing hide and seek, don't hide somewhere you can become stuck and not found quickly. You might contract DVT this way.
By the way....
Risks for DVT include:
- Bedrest
- Cigarette smoking
- Fractures
- Giving birth within the last 6 months
- Medications such as estrogen and birth control pills
- Sitting for a long time, such as on a long plane or car trip
People, please be smart. You don't want to clot. ---joz
